I've found that the IMG tags (with Date digitized ticked in settings) work well for most images. So instead of uninstalling I deleted both apps, as I have done several times today, and then, instead of just unzipping the downloaded apps I deleted the zipped files, for the first time, and re-downloaded them and then unzipped them. The problem arises because the dates could be all different: date modified, date created, etc. Exiftool is a command line utility and ExifGUI makes the former a lot easier to use.
